DITA O CURIE
Dita
is a daughter of Mr. Curie and Mrs. Curie. She still study at Junior high
school. she is a lazy girl, she loves playing games, talking many hours in the bathroom, oops I mean
singing, sends and receive messages all
day in her bedroom, and asking for money
from her father . Dita dislikes being complained or griped, studying ,cleaning her house even just her bed room ,
helping her mother, doing school tasks, and she really afraid of cockroach.
At school,
her teachers always remind her to change her habit, remind her about her
laziness, she always sleeps in the class, playing hand phone or laughing with
her friends. Because of it, her parents are often called. Her parents are bored
and tired of teacher’s reminding of Dita. So they decide to move her to another
school. When Dita hears about it, she is sad. But what can she do, she is moved
because her self. A week before she moves, she thinks many things, she thinks
of her friends, will they accept it? She thinks of how if she’s moved to the
boarding school and has to wake up early, cleaning her room, and meet the
talkative teachers, oh, how come?
This
is Monday, and the time for coming to the new school is today. On the way, she
always imagines how is her new school looks like, she never stops thinking till
arrives, and ..
“Yeah,
it’s not a boarding school, I haven’t to clean my room and wake up early” she
shouts. “who said?” asks her mother, “you should wake up early because our
house is too far from your new school”. Dita is upset “but mom, I could stay at
grandmother’s house to get to school faster, right?”. “Yes, but you have to
help her cleaning her house, cooking, sweeping, and many things you have to do
because your grandmother is talkative”, “it’s okay”, she answers quickly.
At her
new school, she meets many new friends whom she thinks they are freak. She gets
a diligent chair mate, named Tuti. The first week she leaves with introducing
and it runs smooth. But then she begin getting problems, she gets a strange
letter which she doesn’t know from who it is. It’s written :
“Dita,
now I can see you again, I just moved to this school from our last school
because of you. Only to see you”
Oh,
Dita really dislikes it.
On English
class, she meets a strange teacher. That teacher is from Holland, she is really
serious person, she doesn’t allow anyone to smile or laughing, her name is
Andromeda. Dita really dislikes English lesson, so when miss Andromeda asks her
about her ambition, she looks like stuck in that question. Luckily Tuti
whispers to her “CIta-cita, hoy, cita-cita”, said Tuti. “Oh, umm… a .. a ..,
“thieve,
miss” says her friend. Dita who doesn’t understand what it’s meant just says “Yes
miss, tif” “Hahahahahahahahha”, her friends are laughing. She is just upset and
after going home bell is ringing, she asks Tuti and she is really shocked and
ashamed, “Oh, how foolish I am” she thinks.
On Saturday,
she gets a letter again,
“Dita,
my Dear, I really need to see you. I knew you always go to the café on Saturday,
so I’ll see you there. I wait for you, sweety”
Oh God,
she really hates it, she wanna see that person and punch him/her, kick him/her
and it will be done this afternoon! Dita asks Tuti to accompany her. She just
still doesn’t understand how can that person know her habit. At the café she
meets a boy and that is her senior. She really doesn’t believe that senior likes
her and notices her for a long time. Dita asks Tuti to go home as soon as
possible.
Sunday,
Dita is asked by her grandmother to clean the warehouse, she finds a note book.
That book is filled of her grandmother’s grandmother story. It tells about the
colonialism on that time. Her grandmother’s grandmother was one of Indonesian workers,
she ever met a Dutch man who was watching the results of the rice, her
grandmother’s grandmother saw the father of that man scolded a farmer, but that
man was trying to defend the farmer, so that his father slapped him. Dita grandmother’s
grandmother admires that man because his goodness on defending the farmer.
23rd
of November 1856, a week after that incident, that man came again, but his face
looks more fierce. She who initially intend to bring food for her friends
suddenly stopped by that man. Dita grandmother’s grandmother felt so afraid that
if she would be punished as the farmer yesterday, but that feeling’s gone when
that man said, “Wat je gebracht?” “deze ‘lontong’ “. “Mag ik smaak een beetje?”
“alsjeblet”. Grandmother’s grandmother father worked as a Dutch persons subordinates
and taught her Dutch. That man praised the food she was brought, and requested
her to take it again tomorrow. She was confused, but she just nodded.
24th
November 1856, that man came and saw her to ask the food which he
requested yesterday. But when she wanted to give it, his father took it and
threw it. His father look very mad of it and he commended guard to punish her
who was very brave to talked with the Dutch directly even gave his son their
food. That man shocked knowing his father heart, he wondered why they have to
colonize Indonesia? they have their country selves, he was really ashamed of Indonesian
people. He protested and revolted her father and told him to stop punishing
that girl (grandmother’s grandmother) and her father. Her father said to that
man, “Je bent erg goed O Curie, ik ben u zeer dankbaar”. “Tidak, pak. Anda memang
berhak mendapatkan negara anda.”
“Waar
heb je leren Indonesich?” his father asked. That msn told his father about what
was he thought. He asked why they have to colonize Indonesia? they have a
country and Indonesian people was so kind and never wanted to reply what they’ve
done. More than it, for a long time, he often talked with Mr. Djoko, that girl’s
father and he taught him Indonesian language, he loves Indonesian food. After that
incident, Curie’s father realize what they’ve done was wrong and decided to go
back to their country. But they came back and colonize Indonesia, again.
27th
of November 1856 that man (Mr. Curie) said goodbye to grandmother’s
grandmother, he told her that he really loves her country and the food, he’ll
really miss those and he promised to fight for their independence. Grandmother’s
grandmother really appreciated that man so she named her child “Curie” like
that man who fought for their “bright future(independence)”.
“Oh no,
the next page is broken” Dita says. Dita is amazed with that story and now she
tries to change her habit because she thinks how difficult to get the happy
life like she has now.
